Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week


Monday, November 16
Hunger Banquet @ 7-9 pm
Sonoma Valley Room (2nd floor of the Student Center)
The hunger banquet will be an incredible kick off to a week of learning and giving. Students will have the opportunity to experience what it is like dining in a third world country, side by side their first world counterparts. If you are interested in attending, please email ssu.human1@gmail.com

Tuesday, November 17
In Someone Else’s Shoes: A Speaker Series @ 7 pm
Erin Fisher Room (Second floor of the Student Center, near the University Store)
Day two will offer students the chance to listen to stories from two exceptional speakers working at local organizations such as Catholic Charities and COTS of Petaluma. They will discuss personal experiences with homelessness as well as preventative actions and community resources.

Wednesday, November 18
Service Opportunities:
Noah’s Food Pantry Service @ 4-6 pm
Sam Jones Shelter @ 5-7 pm

On Wednesday there will be two different service projects available for students to participate in. Each of them will incorporate a direct service aspect. The first will be helping to distribute food at NOAHS food pantry here in Rohnert Park. The second will be serving dinner at the Sam Jones shelter in Santa Rosa. Students do not have to participate in both, they can choose just one! Please email ssu.human1@gmail.com to participate.
*Transportation will be provided for both service projects!*

Thursday, November 19
Play Away The Hunger @ 5-6:30 pm
Sauv Green
On Thursday JUMP and ASP will be teaming up to host a benefit concert on Sauv Green. While the cost to attend the show is free, students are encouraged to bring donated goods such as; canned food, NEW socks or underwear, hand sanitizers, hygiene items(shampoos/conditioners), hair ties, brushes or combs, diapers (5-6 months), hats or gloves.
**Proceeds will go to local non-profits such as The Living Room, Family Support Center and REFB, and Vintage Brush Creek**

Friday, November 20
Redwood Empire Food Bank Service Opportunity @ 1-3 pm
Friday will be the final day of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. The last opportunity to participate will be an afternoon of service at Redwood Empire Food Bank. REFB is the main food distributor for many of the pantries, kitchens and shelters in the Sonoma County area. Their contributions are crucial to the success of these organizations and this is an excellent chance for students to get involved first hand! Please email ssu.human1@gmail.com to participate.
