Willie Brown served two terms (1996-2004) as the mayor of San Francisco and he was the city's first African American mayor. He was also a member of the California state assembly from 1964 to 1995 and was the Speaker of the California State Assembly from 1980 to 1995. He is currently the chairman and CEO of the Willie L. Brown, Jr. Institute on Politics and Public Service.
