When the University Library and Schulz Information Center first opened 15 years ago, wireless Internet was a novelty and YouTube was still four years away. Now, Sonoma State University celebrates the library's "coming of age" birthday party on Sept. 10 with a Peanuts-themed soiree and art exhibit.

The University Library Art Gallery's "You're an Open Book, Charlie Brown" (Aug. 17-Dec. 15) celebrates the library's 15 years with framed Peanuts comic strips, some of which are originals in creator Charles Schulz's own hand. Some of his favorite records and a turntable are on display, as well as some of his favorite books, available to enjoy while experiencing the exhibit.

The real treat in the exhibit, however, is a table with paper and pencil, where patrons are invited to create their own comic strip. The inspiration station is replete with how-to books and biographies on Charles Schulz.

Peanuts creator Charles Schulz and his wife, Jean, initially pledged $5 million toward a state-of-the-art facility that would replace the aging Salazar Library. This donation paved the way for the new library, and allowed Salazar Hall to be remodeled to house administrative offices, classrooms and laboratories.

We hope to see you there!
