Prison Literature to an Arabic-Speaking Imaginary: from Pop Media to Political-Prisoners Abolition featuring Miriam Gabriel

Maryam Mohammed Imam (also Miriam Michael Gabriel) is a scholar, poet, and part-time witch. She earned her masters in Middle Eastern Studies from the City University of New York, focusing on Arab cinema and post-Ottoman gender and race. Most of her poetry practice as an adult was on the backs of books and napkins. Maryam has been writing and performing poetry since her childhood in Egypt. She now teaches Science at a non-profit, majority-poc high school in Portland, OR, and has been working on her first sci-fi novel for the past year.
