As professor of ethnomusicology at Sonoma State University from 1974-2014, Laxmi Ganesh Tewari (Emeritus) has undertaken extensive fieldwork in India, Turkey, Trinidad and Tobago, Thailand, Fiji, Ghana and Zimbabwe. A leader in the ancient the Gwalior tradition of vocal music, Tewari received extensive training in Hindustani classical vocal music at Banaras Hindu University. He has been honored with an Outstanding Professor Award, a Meritorious Performance and Professional Achievement Award, and the Friends of the Library Faculty Award.
