Join the Sonoma State community in our inaugural celebration of the life and legacy of Cesar Chavez, labor activist and co-founder of the United Farm Workers of America. The ceremony also seeks to honor the everyday contributions of farm workers and today’s labor leaders committed to the struggle for social justice.

The commemorative celebration will include refreshments, remarks by campus leadership, educational activities, and a keynote speech by renowned labor scholar, Dr. Gaspar Rivera-Salgado.

Dr. Gaspar Rivera-Salgado is Project Director at the Center for Labor Research and Education and Director of the Institute for Transnational Social Change at UCLA, where he also teaches classes on work, labor, and social justice. Rivera-Salgado has extensive experience as an independent consultant on transnational migration, race and ethnic relations and diversity training for large organizations. He is co-author of Indigenous Mexican Migration in the United States, and co-editor of Just Neighbors?: Research on African American and Latino Relations in the United States
