Fellowship Opportunity for Undocumented Students
The SSU DREAM Center is excited to announce the CA Campus Catalyst Fund Student Leadership Fellowship. As grantees of the CA Campus Catalyst Fund, the SSU DREAM Center has the privilege of choosing two (2) undocumented student leaders to participate in this fellowship and represent SSU and the DREAM Center at the statewide level.
The Catalyst Fund Student Leadership Fellowship supports Catalyst Fund grantees in promoting the voice, visibility, and knowledge of undocumented student leadership on campus.
Fellows will each receive a $1,500 stipend for their active participation in this fellowship.
Fellows will be part of a cohort of 64 fellows across the state. Each fellow will receive in-person training by Immigrants Rising staff and partners at the Catalyst Fund Grantee Convening (Convening scheduled for January 10-11, 2019). They will also participate in monthly online two-hour professional development and leadership workshops throughout the remainder of the 2018-19 academic year (February, 2019 - May, 2019).
Eligibility Criteria:
Be enrolled as a student at SSU
Be currently undocumented*
Demonstrate clear leadership skills (or potential for leadership development)
Be active within the undocumented student community on campus
Be comfortable sharing their story with others
Be able to attend the Catalyst Fund Grantee Convening (January 10-11, 2019) and monthly online two-hour trainings (February, 2019 - May, 2019, exact dates/times TBD)
Be willing to submit a 2-3 page final assessment and report about your learnings
Learning Outcomes:
Be knowledgeable about promising practices and strategies to affect institutional change for undocumented college students
Be informed about opportunities to engage in pro-immigrant state and federal policy campaigns
Be familiar with and able to share Immigrants Rising’s resources regarding higher education, immigration law/policy, and entrepreneurship
Be familiar with Immigrants Rising’s Storytelling Bill of Rights and comfortable to share their story in powerful and meaningful ways
*The term “undocumented” is defined broadly to include all immigrants who reside in the United States without legal status, including all of the following categories:
Immigrants who entered the country without inspection, entered presenting false documents or overstayed temporary visas, and may now be considered “unlawfully present” in the United States.
Immigrants who have been granted temporary reprieve from deportation through the federal government’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
Immigrants who have been granted prosecutorial discretion through Deferred Action, Stay of Removal or various forms of temporary humanitarian relief but are unable to fully legalize their status.
Immigrants who are in the process of legalization but currently have no legal status.
