No Car? No Problem: How to Get Around Without a Car

Living on-campus without a car is typical for most college freshmen. Not having a car doesn't mean you're limited to only hanging out on campus. Sonoma County offers several modes of public transportation to help you travel through the semester with ease.

1. Sonoma County Transit

Main destinations: Rohnert Park, Cotati, Santa Rosa, Petaluma and Sebastopol.

SCT allows students to make their way around Ropo and ride to nearby cities.

A Sonoma County Transit bus stops by campus Monday through Saturday and is served by local Route 10, intercity routes 26, 44 & 46 and SMART Connector Route 52. Catch the bus near the flag-pole at SSU’s entrance on East Cotati Avenue and Sequoia Way.

2. Sonoma-Marin Smart Train

Main destinations: San Rafael to Santa Rosa.

One year ago, Sonoma County got access to an energy-efficient, clean diesel train system that runs from the Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport station at the north end of Santa Rosa, south to downtown San Rafael in Marin County.

The nearest Smart Train Station is less than a mile walk from campus on East Cotati.

3. Golden Gate Transit

Main destination: The City!

Taking Route 101 on Golden Gate Transit is the easiest way to escape to San Francisco without a car.  The nearest GGT bus stop to campus is about two miles away on Commerce Boulevard and Rohnert Park Expressway and typically departs once every hour.

Schedules are available on the first floor of the library and on the Golden Gate Transit website

4. Sonoma County Airport Express

Main destination: San Francisco International Airport and Oakland International Airport.

Stuck without a ride to the airport? The Airport Express is the easiest way to travel to SFO or the Oakland Airport. The bus departs from the DoubleTree Hotel in Rohnert Park.
