How to Get Mental Health Support in College

If you are in Crisis, call CAPS at 707-664-2153 to be seen as soon as possible. If it is after business hours, please call the University Police at 707-664-4444 or the Sonoma County Crisis Line at 707-576-8181.

In college, taking care of your health should ALWAYS be one of your top priorities. Paying attention to your mental health is equally as important as making sure you live a healthy lifestyle and maintain supportive relationships.

For some, dealing with any mental health struggles can feel isolating, yet it’s increasingly common on college campuses.

Recent studies have shown that about 1 in 5 college students experience anxiety or depression.

That means there’s a lot of students who are going through similar struggles so don’t be hesitant to reach out for support if you need it.

As SSU students, we are fortunate to have access to Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), conveniently located on the first floor of Stevenson.

CAPS most commonly helps with the following:

  • Stress, anxiety, depression, anger, loneliness, low self-esteem, grief

  • Relationship issues, roommate problems, parenting issues, family issues

  • Adjustment to college and life transitions

  • Academic Concerns

  • Multicultural or diversity concerns

  • Sexual assault, abuse

  • Body image, eating disorders

  • AOD use/abuse

This fall CAPS is offering several groups—Go to CAPS for more information or call their office at (707) 664-2153.
