How To Handle Stress

Being a college student can be extremely stressful. Juggling work, classes, tests, projects, a social life, clubs, sports and sleep can feel nearly impossible.

With only a little over a month left of the semester, the finish line is just around the corner and Seawolf Living is here to help you through this stressful time.

  1. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF

Say it again for the people in the back. This is the BEST WAY to handle stress because when you neglect yourself and you continuously overwork yourself without a break you will crash and burn and in result, your work and relationships will suffer which will make your stress way worse.

To avoid this, give yourself at least an hour everyday where you can do something that you know will relax you. This is an important thing to note because every person is different. For some this may mean going out to dinner with friends, for others it is going to the gym and for some it may be skipping the gym and staying in alone.

Every person is different and giving yourself permission to relax, not think about all your obligations for an hour will help you come back to your work in a less stressed state of mind. It’s ok to skip the gym, it’s ok to cancel plans, and it’s ok to give yourself a break. You’ll be happier in the long run.

2. Stay Organized

When your physical space is messy, disorganized, and overwhelmingly chaotic, your mental space won’t be much different. Living in a mess or neglecting staying organized in other ways will just make your stress worse. As someone who hates cleaning and is always stressed, I have learned this lesson time and time again. Organized planner, living space and schedule = less stress.

3. Don’t Procrastinate

We all do it. Especially as the semester is coming to an end, schoolwork that isn’t due right away is not at the top of our to-do list. I believe procrastination has a lot to do with location. If I am at home, I’m not going to want to study or work on anything but if I am on campus or at a coffee shop then I am much more likely to get some work done. There is power in numbers, find a group of friends or people in you classes and form a study group, that way you have people to hold you accountable and you will be able to meet a few times a week and cross some things off your to -do list.
