Do's and Don'ts For Your Next Job Interview

Interviews can be scary and intimidating so preparation is a must. We have compiled a list of the most essential things to do and things to avoid in order to make a good impression of your potential employer.

Do Your Research

Interviews are a lot like class presentations or tests. If you don’t know the material, you’re less likely to succeed. Make sure you do your research of what the job you are applying for will entail, and do your research on the company.

Chances are the interviewer is going to ask you what you know about the company you are applying for. Go to their website, social media, and read reviews of the position with that company on Glassdoor to get a better idea of how you will qualify.

You don’t need to have a fancy answer. It can be as simple as finding the company’s mission statement online and saying how you agree with the morals of the company or mention the awards the company has won in the past. Memorize some facts, relate it to why you want the position and tell them to your potential employer.

Don’t Show Up Late, DO Be Five To Ten Minutes Early

If you show up right at the time of your interview, you’re late. Show up early, so you can start your interview right on time. Employers take note of this and you should too.

DO Ask Questions About The Position

Don’t Forget To Send A Thank You Email To Interviewers For Their Time

Interviews go both ways, as much as the employer is trying to find a good fit for their team, you need to figure out if it will be a good fit for you as well. A great question to ask interviewers is what they are looking for in their ideal candidate. Showing genuine interest in the company and position will help make you stand out. Companies don’t want someone complacent, they want someone passionate that has done their homework.

DO NOT FORGET to send a Thank You Email! Manners 101!

Interviewers are busy and they took an hour out of their day to speak with you. The email doesn’t have to be long, make sure to state you appreciate their time and look forward to hearing from them in the near future. Make sure there aren’t grammatical or spelling errors in this email and make sure to send it within 24 hours.
