Build Your Handshake Profile in 10 Days!
Are you up for a challenge? With the Fall Virtual Career Fair right around the corner, there is no better time to create or revamp your Handshake profile! Handshake is a platform for college students to find jobs, internships, connect with employers, and explore different opportunities. In just ten days you can get your career path on the right track; all you have to do is one step each day!
Day 1: Activate Handshake
Sign up for Handshake using your @sonoma.edu email and follow the steps given. Easy, right?
Day 2: Upload Your Resume
Handshake will auto-fill information directly from your resume, so some of the work is already done for you!
Day 3: What Jobs Interest You?
You can filter by location, industry, and job demand (part-time, full-time, seasonal). This feature makes it easy to find exactly what you’re looking for!
Day 4: Impress With Experience
Experience is the next step in finding a job or internship. Be sure to include any volunteer work, club involvement, or other background knowledge you may have.
Day 5: Follow Employers
This is the time to start exploring! You can follow different organizations and employers for updates on when they may be hiring. This means you will see new opportunities hot off the press!
Day 6: Let’s Talk Academics
MySSU is a great resource for you to see all past courses and skill work. By adding in your coursework, employers will see the experience you have and what talents you could bring to the table to help their organization.
Day 7: It’s Time For Your Close-up!
When employers scroll through Handshake looking to hire, it helps to put a face with a name. Headshots are also useful for the Fall Virtual Career Fair because employers could very well recognize you!
Day 8: Message To Build Connections
Handshake is a great platform to connect with alumni, peers, and interns who may have been in your shoes at one point before landing their position. Don’t be afraid to reach out for a more personal take on the field you’re interested in!
Day 9: Ask Questions
People on Handshake are there to clarify any information about their job posting or internship opportunity. All you have to do is ask, and employers would be happy to help!
Day 10: Ready, Set, Apply!
Now that you’ve made the ultimate Handshake profile, it’s time to start applying. You’ve got this Seawolves!
