The Mid-Semester Slump is REAL

It’s that time in the semester where you may be feeling a little tired or burned out. Know that you’re not alone! Mid-semester slump is REAL, and happens to so many other students around this time of year. It is important to not only recognize the slump that you’re in, but bounce back and finish the semester strong! Here are some tips to recharge your mindset and remain optimistic during the next few months:

  1. #GOALS

Big or small, set goals for yourself! Whether it’s getting out of bed in the morning, finishing an essay, or getting an A on an exam, goals are extremely important. Not only will you be held accountable, but achieving them feels even better!

2. Switch up Your Scenery

By this point in the semester, you’re probably tired of staring at your computer screen from your bedroom. It’s a good idea to take a walk outside for some fresh air in between classes or during study breaks.

3. Plan, Plan, Plan!

Let’s put those colorful planners and sticky notes to use! By now, professors have more than likely posted the remaining assignments for the semester. The process of writing down assignments and deadlines decreases stress levels and declutters your brain!

4. Go to the Pro’s

Just because we are not on campus, doesn’t mean that resources are out of reach. Mental health is a priority and CAPS is a great place to go when you are feeling anxious or stressed. Professors are also just a Zoom call away to discuss any confusions or concerns you may have about the remainder of the semester.

5. Treat Yourself!

Just finished a test on Canvas? Or maybe you made it through that three-hour Zoom lecture you thought would be impossible. It is important to think about all you have done, instead of all that you have to do. So, celebrate your accomplishments, big and small!

When you feel as though your to-do list is never ending, think about how far you’ve come. The mid-semester slump is something that may feel unavoidable. Taking time for yourself is a priority that will only help you in the long-run. Let’s all finish this fall semester strong!
