WEPT & WIC: Everything You Need To Know
Calling all Juniors & Seniors! Are you nervous thinking about completing your writing proficiency requirement before you graduate? Well we are here to help! We are ready to dive in and tell you all you need to know about the Writing Intensive Curriculum Courses (WIC) and the Written English Proficiency Test (WEPT).
Here’s some background:
All CSU’s have a Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) that shows writing proficiency before graduation. SSU’s interpretation is the WEPT exam and WIC courses.
*The best time to enroll in a WIC course or sign up for the WEPT is your Junior or Senior year!
What is a WIC Course?
WIC stands for Writing Intensive Curriculum, which is a semester long course. Whenever possible, it’s best to seek out a WIC course because those will typically be in your major! That means the course will count as course credits AND cover the GWAR requirement! Doesn’t get any better than this! Click here to see the list of courses that you can enroll in to cover your GWAR!
Now onto the WEPT.
This will also cover the GWAR requirement but does not count for any course credits. The WEPT is an online timed writing. The writing is not a research paper, it’s a persuasive article, essay, or letter on a topic of general interest. You can support your argument with personal examples and observations, like details from your academic career, your personal life, your work life, and your experiences with others! Click here to see how you can register for the WEPT!
How can I prepare?
The best way to prepare for the WEPT is to visit the SSU Writing Center's website!
There you can find:
