Packing For On-Campus Housing 101

Clothes… check! Chargers… check! Bath towels… check! With only about a month left until the fall semester begins, it’s time to begin packing for on-campus living! The thought of choosing which items to box up, and which to leave at home can seem overwhelming and, let’s be honest, downright stressful. We’re here to tone down the nerves, and amp up the excitement with a list of packing essentials to get YOU ready for SSU!

What To Bring:

Storage Tubs & Containers

An organized room = a happy student! Pick up some storage containers at Walmart or Target, or bring some from home. Tubs are great for holding chargers, socks, towels, and everything in between!

A Fan

Warm days in Sonoma County call for a cool breeze in your room! Bringing a fan is an essential for a comfortable stay in our on-campus housing villages.

Twin XL Sheets

Don’t forget your bedding! Blankets, comforters, pillows, and of course, Twin XL bed sheets are all must-haves to make your room comfy and cozy.

Laundry Essentials

Whether you’ve been doing laundry since you were 13, or this is going to be a new weekly activity, it’s important to have all of the essentials when you visit the laundry facilities on campus. Add fabric softeners, laundry detergent, and a laundry basket to your packing checklist, now!

Extension Cords

For all those hard-to-reach places, man invented extension cords. Bring 1-2 cords, so that outlets aren’t obstacles in setting up your space!

Disinfectant Spray or Wipes

Keep your room, bathroom, and common areas clean by bringing disinfectant wipes, spray, and sponges. A lot of students coordinate cleaning supplies with assigned roommates to split costs and ensure you have everything you need!

Reusable Water Bottle

Stay hydrated for classes, a workout in the Rec, a study session in the library, and more by bringing a reusable water bottle to campus. There are hydration stations located in the Student Center, Rec Center, and most other campus buildings for an easy fill-up in between classes or extracurriculars.

Decorations

Add a splash of YOU by bringing photos, whiteboards, memo boards, posters, flags, and more to decorate your space! Be sure that all decorations can be hung using Command strips, to be sure not to damage your rooms’ walls.

First Aid Kit

In case of an accident, it’s a good idea to have a first aid kit for your dorm room. Having bandaids, neosporin, and a flashlight are all things you should include in your kit.

A Backpack with School Supplies

Pens, pencils, notebooks, binders, a planner, and a calculator are all great things to have in your backpack for classes. You’ll be prepared and ready to tackle your college courses!

We are so excited for Sonoma State to be your home away from home! For more information on what to bring (and what not to bring) visit the REACH website.
