Emailing 101

We regularly go through our photo library, our text messages, and Snapchat memories, but why don’t we prioritize our email inboxes? Is it because most of the time there’s too many spam emails from websites that give a 10% discount for subscribing, or maybe your Canvas email notifications have been racking up since freshman year. Whatever the case may be, we all overflow our inbox, which can make us lose important information from professors, the University, and outside opportunities. With these easy tips and tricks, you can manage your Gmail and organize your life!

First Thing’s First…

If no one has shown you how to get your SSU email on your smartphone, let us be the first. Being automatically logged in to your University email means that you will get notifications on-the-go from professors, assignment dates, and other important announcements. Sound good? If you are using an iPhone go to Settings, Mail, Accounts, Add Account. Type in the credentials of your SSU email under the “Other” account option OR the Google account option and you’re good to go!

Are You Down To Declutter?

If your inbox is giving you anxiety, fear no more because it’s organizing time! Crank up some music, grab a drink and a snack, to make this declutter session as enjoyable as possible. Start by placing all of the emails that you don’t need into the trash. Once that’s done, you’ll see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Folders = Your New Best Friend

We have folders and binders for each of your classes, but why don’t we do the same for our Gmail inbox? Folders and subfolders are a great way to stay organized throughout the semester so you don’t miss a beat! You can set up folders by clicking “create new label” and naming the folder something general, such as the name of one of your classes. Next, you can add subfolders by clicking on the three dots in the main folder and clicking add sub label. After you have all of your folders made, you can file emails by selecting the folder at the top of the screen. Who knew your inbox could be so satisfying?

Scroll Through Your Email Like It’s Social Media

Clearing out your emails is a big chore, so keeping up on the task regularly will eliminate the need for these giant purge email sessions. To make this routine easier, unsubscribe to irrelevant emails so that your inbox doesn’t get as full over time, and hit SUBSCRIBE on emails that are useful!
