Tips for Living Off Campus

So, you want to live off campus. Although we love keeping our Seawolves close to home by living on campus, we understand it’s not for everyone! Living off campus can be a great opportunity to learn life skills and become more responsible and independent. We know that it can be daunting to look for off-campus housing and secure a spot in time for the new semester, but don’t worry! We’ve compiled the best tips for finding off campus housing!

Finding Roommates

Whether you have a group of friends who you’ve already planned to live with but need one more person to fill your house or you want to branch out and find new roommates, there are some great options! With social media growth there have been some super helpful apps that have surfaced recently. Two of them are Roomsurf and Roomster. These apps help show other people who are looking for roommates or have a house secured but are still trying to fill up some rooms! Another great option out there is Facebook groups. There are so many to look at and there are even ones that can help you fit your specific needs for housing.

Looking for the right space for you!

When searching for the perfect spot for you there are a lot of factors that come into it. The first thing we suggest prioritizing is what type of space you want to live in: apartment, townhouse, or house. There are so many options in the Rohnert Park and Cotati area that can suit your needs. Along with that, coming up with a budget that works for you is really important! Rent can be expensive and making sure that you’re picking a budget that will work with whatever your financial situation is will help make things a lot smoother and easier.

Furnishing Your New Place

Furnishing can be EXPENSIVE…we know! Thankfully there are some great places to find barely used furniture especially during the months of April and May when people are graduating and no longer need beds, couches, side tables, etc. and it’s called Facebook Marketplace! There are also other places like the Nextdoor App where people list their furniture as well. Last but not least, thrift stores! Thrift stores have everything you would need like dining room tables, chairs, coffee tables, and pretty much anything else you can think of. Some great locations in Rohnert Park are Flipside Thrift and St. Vincent de Paul, both have a huge selection with reasonable pricing.

And lastly…don’t stress Seawolves, finding a your off-campus housing should be a fun and exciting process! For more information and resources, visit the Housing Living Off Campus website.
