​Black Graduation celebrates the brilliance and unapologetic Blackness that is represented within SSU's Black student population. We honor the accomplishments of graduating students who identify within the African Diaspora by highlighting the common experience. The ceremony also pays tribute to graduating students' families and the communities that contributed to their success.

This semester, the SSU Opera Scenes class will be celebrating the life and work of Pauline Viardot on the 200th anniversary of her birthday. Viardot was one of the most important singers and composers of her era, and had a monumental effect on the musical life and development of Europe in the latter half of the 19th century.

We will prepare and perform her final chamber opera, Cendrillon, as well as other songs by her family and important contemporaries. The opera will be presented as a show-within-a-show. In addition to its roles and plot, important figures from Viardot's life, including Maria Malibran, Manuel Garcia, and the composer herself will be added characters leading us through the production and the incidental music associated with the opera. Each student will have a role, and everyone will have a similar amount of singing, acting, and production to do over the course of the semester.

We will produce a series of eight video episodes to be released as a podcast on YouTube from late March through early May. At the end in mid May, we will compile all the episodes and have a premiere of the complete performance of Project Pauline.

Rainbow Graduation honors the achievements of SSU’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) graduating students. The event celebrates LGBTQIA+ students who, through determination and academic achievements, have successfully completed a degree and/or credential and encourages pride and recognition of their identities.

Raza Graduation is a culturally empowering ceremony that celebrates the diversity of the Chicanx/Hispanic/Indigenous/Latinx culture. The celebration is bilingual and brings together family, friends, and community members to honor graduating Latinx students from SSU.

We're Bringing the Party to You! You did it; now it's time to celebrate! Our signature Toast of the Town will take place virtually this year to recognize our Class of 2021 graduates. Join us on Wednesday, May 19th as we raise a glass in your honor to celebrate your accomplishments. We recognize many traditions have been missed or altered during the pandemic, and we're wanting to celebrate YOU!

The Great American Songbook is a body of repertoire that arose in the first half of the 20th century from sources like Broadway musicals, variety shows, revues, clubs, radio, films, and early television programs. These songs, often written by renowned composers like Duke Ellington and Irving Berlin, captured the public’s imagination and wormed their way into the ears of a nation. Time and again, these musical gems have been performed, remade, and renewed in jazz, pop, and theater idioms. The frequency and ubiquity of their performance, and their unique identification with American music history have led to acceptance of the Great American Songbook canon. SSU’s vocalists will put their own spin on these classic songs, in a jazzy, tuneful, and spirited final recital of the semester.

In the grand 19th century tradition of evenings of song, the SSU Voice Program will present its own spring Liederabend. All the songs will be performed in German, and will offer a wide variety of composers of the 18th and 19th centuries—Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Clara and Robert Schumann, Brahms, Wolf, Mahler, Strauss, and many more. Liederabends ranged in style and format from casual evenings of family and friends performing at home to full recitals in some of Europe’s most exalted venues. The tradition continues this spring with SSU’s informative and enjoyable take on this special concert gem.

Log on to our video stream and take part in a one of a kind interactive Music & Art experience. While our Drumming DJ plays to all the hits, our professional caricature artists will create your digital caricature LIVE! The experience will be streamed for all participants to see as your Group or Individual Caricatures are created! Send yourself, a friend, or colleague some encouragement and support in the form of a Finals Week Pet Gram, courtesy of the University Library at Sonoma State! Finals Week Pet Grams will feature a photograph of an adorable pet (choose between Dog, Cat, or Exotic Pet) owned by a library staff member. Include a customized message of your own, or help us craft a kind and supportive note for you. Requests will be accepted now through May 16, 2021.

Asian/Pacific Islander (API) and Middle Eastern (ME) Graduation is an annual celebration to commemorate the graduation success and achievements of Asian/American identified graduating students along with honoring staff, and faculty that have contributed work, community, and service to the Asian/American Desi American Pacific Islander* and Middle Eastern communities at SSU.​

Teresa Ramírez, PhD, is a scientific influencer, mentor, first-generation& community role model that inspire many to obtain their dreams and goals regardless of any challenges that may arise. She has no limits and mentors many students from coast to coast. Dr. Ramírez grew up in the City of Compton, California, where she obtained an education by attending Compton’s public schools. During high school, she was part of the MESA educational program and received great exposure to team building and great opportunities. She graduated from California State University, Dominguez Hills with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She is a longtime member of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science known as SACNAS. She is the first from her family to have graduated from college and to have obtained a doctorate degree in Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology from Brown University. Dr. Ramírez was previously the chair for the Mujeres de HACE DC/McLean Alumnae Board. Currently, she is part of the Latinas Leading Tomorrow Board, which is a non-profit geared to provide mentorship to young Latina middle and high school girls to become college bound and exposes them to various college opportunities. Dr. Ramírez is passionate about sharing her love for science and firmly believes in the importance of mentorship and how it can create a positive impact in the lives of others as it did on hers. Dr. Ramírez also believes that dreams do come true when one truly believes in them and is also determined to achieve them regardless of any obstacles that one can encounter in that trajectory.

A support group designed to provide a safe and confidential space for SSU students who identify within the wide spectrum of the LGBTQIA+ community. Co-create a supportive and affirming space, share common experiences, and deepen your self-understanding. All who identify within the LGBTQIA+ community, including those questioning, are welcome
