DIY Study Break - Rock Candy

  • Sonoma State University (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Homemade Rock Candy is awesome! It really is food science working at its finest. Not only is it a fun experiment to do but the end result is so tasty. Using just a few ingredients you can make rock candy at home. It would make a great activity to do with the kids as well. Maybe someone needs to conduct a science experiment for school? This would work perfectly for that. It is easy to do, if I can do it, you can do it. Let’s get started!

Ingredients You Will Need:

Water – I generally use filtered water, since my tap water tastes gross.

White granulated sugar – The sugar is the star of the dish. You can’t make rock candy without the sugar.

Food coloring – This is an optional ingredient. It is great for making all kinds of different colors.

Flavoring – There are a variety of flavorings that you can put in your rocky candy.

Tools You’ll Need:

Pot

Wooden spoon or spatula

Lollipop sticks or bamboo skewers

Wide glasses or mason jars

Clothespins

‘Tis the Season to Be Jolly! Oh my goodness, I am So excited to share today’s DIY Christmas craft with you! Back in the day, when we had Stress Free Zone in person, we made these, and many other ornaments out of lightbulbs! This Light Bulb Snowman ornament should be on your DIY craft list this holiday season. The is fun for all ages and here are some links to more creatures and characters! Have fun:)

Items Needed:
pkg of lightbulbs (or many pkgs if you plan to make a lot, or, like me.....drop them:) lol

paint brushes

hot glue

acrylic paint.

Bottles of acrylic paint come in small bottles and are about $1 each. You’ll definitely need white, black, and orange. I happened to make red “hat” tops on my snowmen, but get creative with this part. Use any color you love, including pastels. Find some fabric (buy some inexpensive fabric squares re-purpose something). White glitter for the tops of the snowmen, but this is optional. DIY Study Break - vision boards

DIY Study Break - vision boards

  • Sonoma State University (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Just the act of taking the time to think about what you want is a step that most people don't take the time to do. Then going further and creating a visual representation of those goals and putting it somewhere where you are forced to be reminded of it every day keeps you focused on those goals. This in turn helps guide you in making everyday decisions and taking actions that will eventually get you those things that you want. A vision board is just the road map; you're driving the car. Please watch the movie "The Secret" (which is streaming on Netflix) if you would like to learn more about this - REMEMBER: Just the act of writing down your goals and making a vision board makes you **TEN TIMES** more likely to achieve them, so it's definitely a worthwhile exercise!

Traditions and Symbols of Yule

When the days grew colder and the nights grew longer, people of ancient times would light candles and gather round fires to lure back the sun. They would bring out their stores of food and enjoy feasting and festivities. Dances were danced and songs were sung and all would delight in decorating their homes. We wanted to share a little bit about the Winter Solstice/Yule Traditions and Symbols. Decorations for A Magical Yule Winter Solstice Holiday Tree : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg5j38Bw-wM
