January is National Stalking Awareness Month. Stalking happens in communities across the country, and chances are you know someone who has been stalked. Stalking is a serious, prevalent, and dangerous crime that impacts every campus and community in the United States. It is a violation of Title IX and is a crime under the laws of the 50 states, District of Columbia, U.S. Territories, and Federal government. Individuals 18-24 years old experience the highest rates of stalking (among adults) and many college stalking victims disclose to their friends before talking to anyone else. Being someone who takes stalking seriously and is willing to help can make a difference. Everyone has a role to play in knowing, naming and stopping stalking.
