Sonoma State University has many experts on recent domestic and geopolitical events within its faculty. On September 18th, we'll highlight some of that expertise with a panel discussion on the upcoming elections in the United States, with a focus on the presidential race and on California's major races and propositions.
Join us for an engaging discussion that offers our alumni, students, and community members valuable insights in an age of overwhelming information. Sonoma State's experts will guide you in understanding what information truly matters and how to view upcoming events, particularly as we approach November 5th, with a more informed perspective.

Moderator: Dr Robert Eyler, Professor of Economics at Sonoma State University
Dr. Eyler has been teaching at SSU since 1995 and holds a Ph.D. from UC Davis. He is an accomplished author and a sought-after expert in economic matters, with a particular interest in the economics of the wine industry and monetary policy. Dr. Eyler has served as a visiting scholar at both the University of Bologna and Stanford University, and his deep roots in Sonoma County make him a distinguished figure in our community.
Panelists:
Dr. David McCuan is Professor of Political Science at Sonoma State University.
His scholarly expertise rests in two broad areas - American politics and International Relations. His doctorate was granted from the University of California – Riverside in 2002. Professor McCuan also focuses on terrorism and political violence. Due to Professor McCuan’s adherence to a policy of strict bipartisanship, his commentary and analysis is sought out by multiple media outlets and includes media appearances providing analysis of campaign dynamics and election results among international, national, regional, and local media outlets.
Dr. Emily Ray is Associate Professor in the Political Science department at Sonoma State University.
Her research lies in the area of political environmental theory, with particular interest in the social and political responses to climate change, extractivism, and the new space race.
