SSUTTD: Before The Summer Season Is Over

First semester may have begun, but that warm Summer season is still with us! We gathered up our favorite summer spots to visit before sweater weather rolls in.

1. The Russian River

Have a free day on the weekend? Pack up a bag with towels, sunscreen and snacks and head down to the Russian River! Just a short drive from SSU with many access points, the river is the place to be if you are looking for a fun-filled day full of of swimming and relaxing.

Insider Tip: Bring a big floatie and enjoy a ride down the river.

Craving some of the best local eats? Look no further. Until October 2019, Presidio Picnic is happening every Sunday at The Presidio in San Francisco from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is absolutely free to attend. 30+ of the Bay Area’s best food truck vendors attend this picnic each week. Make a day out of being in this beautiful National Park- bring a blanket, try the vendors, and explore all that the Presidio has to offer!

Insider Tip: Get there early to get a good picnic spot!

3. Dillon Beach Bonfire

Just under an hour drive from SSU, you’ll find Dillon Beach. You can enjoy this privately owned beach during the day and the evening. Stay into the night and enjoy a bonfire with friends. Bring wood, smores, and a blanket and celebrate these last couple weeks of the summer season!

Insider Tip: Parking fee is $10!


A short 45 minute drive from SSU, the Redwoods make you feel like you are miles and miles away from human activity. With different trails for different difficulties, the Redwoods suit anyone from beginners to experienced hikers. Gather a group of friends and spend a day out hiking!

Insider Tip: Stop at the Korbel Delicatessen & Market in Guerneville on the way back for fresh sandwiches, salads, and side dishes that will satisfy that hiking hunger.

Spud Point Crab Company in Bodega Bay

Spend the day in Bodega Bay and stop by family-owned restaurant Spud Point Crab Company. Opened since 2004, they specialize in chowder & crab, and also serve all types of seafood, sandwiches and side dishes that will have your mouth watering.

Insider Tip: We recommend the Clam Chowder (It was voted best clam chowder on the Sonoma Coast)
