Zoom Isn’t Just For Class: Organize A Study Group Today

With finals season right around the corner and assignments adding up left and right, what better time to organize a virtual study group! By connecting with other Seawolves, not only will you find company, but it is a great way to hold yourself accountable and get work done. Here is what you need to know to create a successful virtual study group!

Find Your People

The most important component of a study group is finding others to join you! Do you want to study with people in your classes to help each other with assignments and understanding the same material? Will you invite your friends, instead, for company and accountability? Before creating your group, think about who will push you to succeed!

Mark Your Calendars

Once you’ve found other Seawolves, you will need to find a time that works best with everyone’s schedules. Whether it’s a Sunday morning study session with numerous cups of coffee, or a meeting after class to go over the lesson, mark your calendars! Note: Committing to weekly or bi-weekly study groups creates a positive habit and routine for everyone!

Be Prepared!

You should never go to class unprepared; the same rule applies for study groups! Discussing key topics and goals of the session beforehand is a good idea if you are working on assignments for the same class. If you’re working with friends, make a list of everything that YOU need to get done. Plus, it feels good to check things off your list as the meeting goes on!

Focus, Focus, Focus

It can be hard to limit distractions because, let’s be honest, most of the time you’d like to focus on anything but the homework at hand. Try to limit the amount of pet appearances and siblings running behind your Zoom screen. Be attentive, and save the fun conversations for after the work is done!

Is It Time For A Study Break?

Zoom fatigue is REAL and scheduling study breaks during your virtual session can help everyone in the group stay focused and motivated. Whether you all turn off your screens for five minutes to stretch, or let yourself have a conversation about your weekend plans, always take the time you need for yourself in order to be productive!

Set Goals & Make It Happen!

If you’re working on a project together, set a common goal to achieve by the end of the meeting. If you’re working with friends, have everyone go around the (Zoom) room and share something that they plan to accomplish during the study session. Goals not only hold everyone accountable, but there is no better feeling than making your goals become a reality!

Virtual study groups are the perfect way to stay connected while we’re apart. Are you ready to organize yours today?!
