7 Midterm Mistakes To Avoid

Can you believe it’s time for midterms? As the stress begins to build and due dates start to feel everlasting, one thing we know for sure… you will get through it. Manage your time, take care of yourself, and complete those to-do lists! We know that midterms can be intimidating, so we’ve made a list of top midterm mistakes you can avoid in the coming weeks; let’s get into it.

1) Studying Without A Plan Or Goal

Before your next study session, have a plan for what you intend to accomplish. Make a to-do list that is realistic for positive results.

2) Memorizing Your Notes Word For Word

It is important to not only memorize the material, but to understand what you will be tested on. Tip: go through your study guide and write your own definition or explanation for the terms or main ideas.

3) Pulling An All-Nighter To Study

As tempting as it is to hit the library late at night with your study buddies, try to study during the day. Not only will you be able to focus on your work better, but you will be able to get a full night’s rest before test day!

4) Not Reading The Full Question

During your midterm, it’s easy to skim each question in fear of not having enough time to finish the exam. Be sure that you read each question in full, in case professors use tricky wording!

5) Saving Essay Questions For Last

If your midterm consists of multiple choice and short answer questions, complete the short answer questions first so that you can put your efforts into writing first. (It’s much easier to fill in bubbles if you’re short on time than writing a paragraph).

6) Leaving Multiple Choice Questions Blank

Don’t know the answer? Guess! Never leave any multiple choice questions blank; no matter what you’ll have a 25% of guessing right if you aren’t sure what the correct answer is.

7) Not Looking Over Your Test Before Submitting

If there is time remaining in the testing session, be sure to look over your exam before turning it in. Here you can catch mistakes you may have made.
