Curbing Anxiety With In-Person Classes

It’s been a while… sitting in the Ives lecture hall, finding a place to sit in a Salazar classroom, and trying to make friends in a crowd of other Seawolves has become foreign to many of us. Although there is excitement behind getting back to reality, the anxiety that comes along with returning to in-person classes is real. We’re here to reassure you that you will be okay and you can do this! Read below for tips for returning for spring semester!

Connect With Campus Resources

You’re never alone at SSU! If you find yourself struggling, reach out to the services below for help. Staff, faculty and campus leaders want to see YOU succeed; don’t be afraid to ask for help during this time of transition.

Set Realistic Expectations

It is important to understand that returning back to in-person classes and activities may not be the same as before. If being in groups of people for long periods of time used to be your normal way of life, don’t be too hard on yourself if you require more alone time. Give yourself grace when it comes to increasing day-to-day interactions with others; it may take more time than you think.

Reach Out To Friends

Just as we said before, reach out to others. Find people that make you feel comfortable and that you enjoy being around. Whether it’s your roommate since freshman year, a coworker on campus, or a teammate on an intramural sports team, seeking out friendships with others is a great way to jump back into the swing of things.

Focus On Positive Mental Health

Did you get enough sleep last night? When is the last time you’ve eaten? Be sure that you are developing healthy practices now more than ever. When your body and mind are in a positive place, you will be too!

Remember That You’re Not Alone

Most importantly, remember that we’re all in the same boat! Many other Seawolves also haven’t had an in-person class in almost two years; they are most likely feeling the same sense of anxiety, doubt and worry that you are.

We recognize that returning to in-person classes comes with some stress. Remember to take time for yourself and do the best you can! We are here for YOU!
