Feeling overwhelmed? Let's fix it!
Are you overwhelmed? If yes, you are not alone! With the school year started, it can be easy to get overwhelmed as you begin new classes, jobs, or extracurriculars. Being overwhelmed can affect your daily moods, emotions, time management, and ultimately cause you stress. Let’s take a look at ways we can help ourselves out!
ARE YOU GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP?
Many college students run themselves into the ground. From staying up late to waking up for an 8 A.M. class, the majority of college students miss out on a lot of sleep. Not only sleep, but the time to rest and the opportunity to have a moment in silence. Sleep is a necessity in life, so let’s prioritize it.
TIPS
Go to bed earlier
Take time away from things that are making you stressed
Create a sleep schedule for yourself
GET SOME FRESH AIR
It’s so easy to lock yourself inside your room and forget to take a step outside for a break. There are so many benefits to getting outside such as increasing your intake of Vitamin D or boosting your serotonin levels. All are which factors that link your mental health and the feeling of happiness.
TIPS
Make time for a morning or evening walk everyday
Open your windows for a fresh airflow
Make sure to get the sun and get some Vitamin D
PUT DOWN YOUR PHONE
It’s no secret that the amount of time we students spend on our phones is unhealthy. Many use their phones as a source of falling asleep or go on it right as they wake up. Seeing social media, new texts, or emails can create a very overwhelmed feeling. So let’s be sure we are taking time away from our phone everyday and replacing it with something that doesn’t take a lot of brain power or maybe nothing at all!
TIPS
Trade your scrolling time out for time to do a hobby of yours
Set down your phone and other devices before you get into bed
Give yourself at least 20 minutes to wake up before going on your phone in the morning
DRINK WATER & PRIORITIZE YOUR MEALS
College students have a “GO! GO! GO!” lifestyle and never set enough time aside to eat, while often always being dehydrated. When feeling stressed or overwhelmed, you need to make sure you are fueling your body. Hydrating yourself is almost 100% guaranteed to make you feel more energized and can calm you down. Making time to eat a balanced meal will also make you feel more energized while also making you do something that doesn’t take brain power.
TIPS
Make yourself a goal to drink a certain amount of water each day
Find a time to eat balanced meals each day (maybe meal prep those meals)
Whenever you feel super overwhelmed take a break from whatever you are doing and drink water & eat a snack
Whenever you feel overwhelmed, know you’re not alone and you can turn your day around in a jiffy!
