What To Remember for Registration!

Registration for Spring 2025 opens up next Monday, November 18. It can be overwhelming to pick the classes you need to graduate. But we also have to remember to pick classes best suited for our individual qualities. Let’s go over some aspects that students forget to consider while registering, so that YOU can achieve academic success!

IN PERSON VS. ONLINE

In Person Classes

Some students prefer in-person classes, and here’s why:

- Getting dressed in the morning may help with productivity

- There may be more distractions at home versus in a classroom

 - It can be easier to bond when you’re face to face with other students rather than trying to connect over Zoom

Online Classes

Other students prefer online classes, and here’s why:

- Zoom is taken from the convenience of your home

- There’s the advantage of using the chat to communicate, which can be helpful for those with anxiety

- Depending on if it is asynchronous or synchronous, you could work at your own pace

ASYNCHRONOUS VS. SYNCHRONOUS ONLINE

Asynchronous

Asynchronous classes do not consist of a scheduled Zoom and instead, course work can be turned in at your own pace while following a due date. Students who are good at time management may choose this course so they could plan their own schedule.

Synchronous

Synchronous classes take place at a certain place and time, so synchronous online classes usually take place on Zoom at the same consistent time. Students who enjoy the Zoom style of learning should consider taking a synchronous class versus an online class.

Bisynchronous is a combination of the two. Sometimes, it involves meeting at a certain time and other weeks, it involves independent work.

MORNING VS. AFTERNOON CLASSES

We’ve all heard of the “detested” 8 AM classes, but these classes actually might work for you.

Morning Classes

Morning classes cause students to wake up early, which some prefer and some dislike. These early wake up times can lead to beautiful sunrises and the feeling of the crisp morning air and can lead to students feeling productive since they’ve completed a whole class before others have woken up. If you schedule all of your classes in the morning, that means that you can have afternoons free (which guarantees you’ll have time to have a midday nap)!

Afternoon Classes

Afternoon classes are beautiful because you have a nice, calm morning to sleep in. That’s also time for you to be productive. If you schedule all of your classes in the afternoon, your academic day will end later, but those mornings will be nice and relaxing. This is a great choice if you tend to stay up late.

For some classes, you don’t get a choice. But make sure you are in tune with yourself when you DO! Happy registration, friends!!! :)
