Self Care Week Event: Netflix Viewing Party - The Social Dilemma

Set in the dark underbelly of Silicon Valley, The Social Dilemma fuses investigative documentary with enlightening narrative drama. Expert testimony from tech whistle-blowers exposes our disturbing predicament: the services Big Tech provides-search engines, networks, instant information, etc.-are merely the candy that lures us to bite. Once we're hooked and coming back for more, the real commodity they sell is their prowess to influence and manipulate us.

Self Care Week Presents: Mindfulness and Self-Care

In this workshop, students will learn how to use mindfulness to regulate their stress response.  Mindfulness refers to awareness of moment to moment experience with an attitude of open acceptance.  It is an innate capacity that persons can cultivate with simple, easy-to-understand, exercises. I will teach students some of these exercises. Students will experiment with them and discuss their experiences.

Evidence shows that mindfulness can be effective for improving concentration, emotional stability and a sense of optimism.

I have studied and practiced mindfulness meditation for over twenty years.  I am a certified compassion cultivation training teacher with a program that Stanford developed.  I have trained with the Mindful Awareness Research Center at the Stempel Institute for Neuroscience and behavior at UCLA.  I also have a PhD in philosophy and am a professor in the philosophy department at SSU.  For More Information contact, andy.wallace@sonoma.edu
