SSU Things To Do

On campus, there are tons of events to go to! But what is there to do OFF campus? Let’s explore some local gems that would be PERFECT for your next day trip. Here are some SSU Things to Do!

Taylor Mountain

Only 13 minutes away from campus, Taylor Mountain Regional Park is a popular spot amongst college students. It offers gorgeous views of Santa Rosa and there are different trails you can take based on your preferences.

Scandia

This is a CLASSIC spot amongst Sonoma State students. Scandia is located in Rohnert Park and it’s only a 12 minute drive! You can test out your swing at the batting cages, play games at the arcade, ride the blaster boats, and more. Although, the real draw for many college students is their extensive miniature golf course. Take a trip to Scandia to declare your friend group’s Mini Golf Champion!

TrainTown

Ever heard of TrainTown in Sonoma? It’s a free experience that includes 4 miles of track through tunnels and over bridges, making a stop at Lakeview - a miniature town with a petting zoo! There’s tons to do there but the best part of TrainTown are the breathtaking views it offers. From the beautiful bodies of water to the greenery that surrounds TrainTown, it can make for a great day trip!

Local Beaches

The beautiful thing about Sonoma State is that we’re in close proximity to the beach! Whether it’s Dillon Beach or Bodega Bay, both are about 40-50 minutes away from campus. Grab a beach blanket and your friends, and enjoy the breezy shore and breathtaking views!

Museums

Admit it… museums are SO underrated amongst college aged students. But it can make for a memorable day trip. Luckily, we have museums near SSU, such as the de Young Museum or the Museum of Modern Art. Both are located in San Francisco and showcase beautiful pieces that can start a conversation between you and your friends. And after you’re done touring the museum, you could spend some time in SF as well!
